Objectives

To provide the normal range of nuchal fold (NF) thickness during second trimester of pregnancy in Iranian fetuses.

Methods

In a cross sectional study nuchal fold thickness was measured in 3470 fetuses at 16 to 22 weeks of gestation in women screen negative for first trimester aneuploidy screening. The mean value for NF thickness and 95% confidence interval were established for every week.

Results

The 50 th percentile range of NF thickness was from 2.8 to 4.8 mm in singleton and 3 to 4.9 mm in twins between 16 and 22 weeks of gestation. A significant relation was found between NF and gestational age, 2.8 mm at 16 weeks to 4.3 mm at 22nd weeks.

Conclusions

Nuchal fold thickness is significantly correlated with gestational age between 16 and 22 weeks of gestation.
